John Mathes is a Executive Vice President | Brokerage with The Retail Connection, L.P. and has eighteen [18] years of extensive real estate experience. John is one of the industry’s most proficient professionals in the areas of project leasing and tenant representation, boasting high profile regionally and nationally recognized brands as his top clients. In addition to his relationships with some of the nation’s foremost retailers, Mathes specializes in land sales, dispositions, and financial institutions in the Dallas | Fort Worth Metroplex. Mathes has represented a number of premier new development sites, land listings and pad sites. His most notable development is the 825,000 square foot Arlington Highlands Shopping Center in Arlington which he has worked on and taken from the initial concept plan in 2004 all the way through the final finished product today. Arlington Highlands is one of the largest open air shopping centers in North Texas and has laid the groundwork for economic expansion throughout Arlington and its surrounding areas. It is a premier example of a well-planned and successful mixed-use project in North Texas, attracting over 8 million visitors a year to “Shop, Dine, Work, Play and Stay” at one of the more than 120 retailers [such as Bed Bath & Beyond, The Container Store, White House Black Market, and Ethan Allen]. This Hybrid Lifestyle Center includes 25 exciting restaurants [including P.F. Chang’s, The Keg, Chuy’s, and BJ’s, 3 entertainment venues, 60,000 square feet of Class A office space, and over 50 lifestyle tenants]. Arlington Highlands and Arlington Highlands East employ approximately 2,500 employees and generates roughly a third of a billion dollars in annual sales. Arlington Highlands was recognized as The Best New Retail Development in DFW in 2006 by the Dallas Business Journal and was featured at the 2006 Texas ICSC Developers Showcase. John has also achieved Top Producer Honors at The Retail Connection including reaching the top Platinum Level [$1,000,000 + in gross production] in 2005, 2007 and 2012, Gold Level in 2006, 2008, and 2013 and the Bronze level in 2004, 2009, 2011 and 2015.

John has been involved in the following organization: Habitat for Humanity | Building a home on-site and then coordinating with all of the various retail tenants of the center to furnish the home for a local family; S.A.F.E. Event | Hosting the S.A.F.E. 2008 and 2009 [Safer Arlington for Everyone] event in conjunction with the Arlington Police Department, Arlington Fire Department, and U.S. Armed Forces to promote the health and safety of the citizens of Arlington; Can Food Drive for Tarrant County Food Bank; Movie in the Park Charity | Created an all day free event to the public culminating in a family-friendly movie in the park, with all proceeds from donations going to the Tarrant County Food Bank; Continuing to expand the reach of new charitable organizations into each of the monthly | quarterly special events at Arlington Highlands and Arlington Highlands East. Member of Arlington Chamber of Commerce. He has also been involved in charitable endeavors with Cystic Fibrosis, St. Mark’s School of Texas, St. Michael’s and All Angels Episcopal Church, and the Episcopal School of Dallas. John served on the Board of Directors for The Friends of The Levitt Pavilion from 2007 to 2009, and served as Treasurer in 2007. The goal of The Levitt Pavilion Arlington is to provide an experience of 50 multi-cultural free performances annually that promote respect for diversity, enrich family values and enhance community spirit through a shared appreciation of the performing arts in downtown Arlington. John coaches youth sports at both the Park Cities and Town North YMCA and has served on the Boys Sports Committee for the Park Cities Y. John serves on the board for the Dad’s Partnership for the Episcopal School of Dallas.

In addition to the awards John has won based on his leadership of the Arlington Highlands project; his outstanding production has lead to the following awards: Top Retail Tenant Representation and Project Leasing Broker Award for DFW by the Dallas Business Journal in 2005. He has also been recognized as a Heavy Hitter by the Dallas Business Journal almost every year and as a finalist for “Rookie of the Year”.

John grew up in Dallas and graduated from St. Marks School of Texas and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.
